Charlie and The Chocolate Factory Review

A book reviewed by my student Gavin

Author       : Roald Dahl

Genre         : Fantasy, kids

Story          :  (spoiler alert)

One day, there was a boy named Charlie who lived with his parents and grandparents in a small house with only 2 rooms. His favorite food is chocolate, but he could only afford it once a year; on his birthday. He would always lick the chocolate bit by bit so that he wouldn’t finish it right away; hence it took approximately 3 months to finish that single bar of chocolate. His everyday meal was cabbage soup. Anytime he went to school, he always got intrigued by the giant chocolate factory near his house. One day when he came back from school, his parents and grandparents was hearing the radio with an announcement from Mr. Wonka. It said that 5 of the luckiest children who found a golden ticket from a Wonka chocolate bar could have a visit in his factory and receive unlimited supplies of any kind of Wonka’s product. The first child who founded the tickets was a greedy fat boy called Augustus Gloop. The second one is Veruca Salt, who is a daughter of the Super Rich of a nut-cracker-factory owner. The third one is Mike Teave, a kid who loves to watch TV and collect toy guns. The last one is Violet Bearegarde. This girl could chew the same gum even until 3 months. And the last one was Charlie himself, who against the odds, found the last ticket from a situation he’d never imagined. When the time of the factory visit came, they went in the factory with their parents except Charlie who went with his Grandpa Joe. So Mr. Wonka showed them around the factory with a note “don’t get too far from me or you get lost.” ‘This factory is like a maze,” Mr. Wonka said. He opened doors to doors and introduce room to room. But anytime Mr. Wonka showed the room, one of the kids made a mess and got in trouble that they went missing one by one until left only Charlie. Mr. Wonka assured the parents that the kids who went missing will be okay and get back to their parents. When there was only Charlie and his Grandpa Joe, Mr. Wonka then showed the rest of the factory to them by getting in the elevator. He was impressed by Charlie that then he offered him the whole factory to run since he had no kids and family.

My review:

this book is great. The story is really fun to read. It has a lot of things to learn as well, one of them was Charlie’s characteristic that he was such an obedient and well-behaved kid. He obeyed to the rules, listened to what adults tell, and he treats his family well despite his unfortunate life. He was unlike the other children in this book who were quite misbehaving and doing things without thinking first. Even though it took a while to finish it, but you can still enjoy the book because the writing was easy to understand. I really recommend this book for children, because it’s not only the story that is fantastic, but also the moral story behind it.
